Designer Jólan van der Wiel has sent us this movie by Miranda Stet featuring his machine for shaping stools using gravity and magnets. The machine and its outcomes are on display as part of the [D3] Contest for young designers at imm cologne in Germany this week.

Jólan van der Wiel presented the machine at Dezeen Platform in London last autumn – you can see photos in our story here and watch our interview with him here.

Dezeen Platform: Jólan Van Der Wiel

In this interview we filmed at Dezeen Space, designer Jólan van der Wiel explains how his series of stools are shaped by magnets and gravity.  He demonstrated the process live at Dezeen Platform last week – see photos and more information in our story on Dezeen.

Each day, for 30 days, a different designer will use a one metre by one metre space to exhibit their work at Dezeen Space. We’ll publish interviews with the designers on Dezeen Screen over the coming weeks – watch the first few here and see the full lineup for Dezeen Platform here.
