In this final interview from our series of Dezeen Talks filmed at the Inside awards in Barcelona, Dezeen editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs talks to Lyndon Neri of Neri&Hu about his restaurant design within the Waterhouse at South Bund hotel in Shanghai, where cut-outs in the ceiling mean diners can look up into the bedrooms above.
In this movie he talks about the importance of the private dining room in Chinese culture and how his design challenges this idea. He continues his discusion of the Chinese attitude to restoration and recycling and how Shanghai is becoming a centre for new culture.

As part of the series of Dezeen Talks filmed at the Inside awards in Barcelona, Dezeen editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs talks to Alberto Miceli-Farrugia of Architecture Project about their renovation of a property overlooking the Grand Harbour in the Maltese capital of Valletta, which won the creative re-use category. The building is part of the historical city fortifications known as St Barbara Bastion and has been converted into offices with a residential apartment at roof level.
In the movie, Miceli-Farrugia talks about how the Maltese climate, history and being surrounded by the sea impacts on his work, the human mind’s capacity to create cities from impossible situations and the appeal of Jane Fonda in 1968 sci-fi film Barbarella.
